Marseille is the oldest city in France. A ship’s shuttle takes passengers to the main tourist area. A favorite place to visit is Notre-Dame de La Garde, a church.
Interesting trips to other parts of Provence:
Les Baux- a medieval town
Arles- Roman town, theatre, and arena
Aix-en-Provence- town founded in 123 BC- Here’s a step by step guide to get there by train or bus. http://mikestravelguide.com/the-quickest-and-easiest-way-to-get-from-marseille-to-aix-en-provence/

Hints: The cruise lines don’t tell you this, but…. if you walk just outside the fence and follow the painted line on the sidewalk it will take you to the free shuttle bus to town. NCL (and other lines I’m sure) charge you about $10 per person to get shuttled to town – the free shuttle bus is about 10-15 minutes away. We just walked around town and had a great authentic French lunch in town.
