A Poem by Anna Grabiec: Polish Flowers

Polish Flowers

polish-flowers-in-fields

By Anna Grabiec

A foreign wind sings to you,

Boasting of the beautiful world,

But the heart is longing.

For somewhere far from her,

Remains the family home

There it’s the most beautiful.

Refrain:

There just now

The flowers have blossomed.

Daisies, violets, marigolds and poppies.

Under the Polish heavens

In the open country they’ve grown up,

The flowers of the fatherland

In their fragrance

And beauty is Poland.

To so once again

Graze upon the home forest,

Fields and grasslands,

And to mother’s arms

Bring from the green grasses

Blossoming buds.

Refrain:

There just now

The flowers have blossomed.

Daisies, violets, marigolds and poppies.

Under the Polish heavens

In the open country they’ve grown up,

The flowers of the fatherland.

In their fragrance

And beauty is Poland.

A foreign wind sings to you

A wanderer’s fate drives you,

Far away, somewhere in the world.

Take with you into the world,

Take from your family home

A little bouquet.

Take with this song a bouquet of flowers

Daisies, violets, marigold and poppies…
